Australia

wow. it's funny to see everyone posting to save their xanga sites. i guess we all still sit around reading subscriptions, but have become too lazy to actually post. =)

david and i have been in australia for the past 8 months. it's been forever. we got to go home once in May to see friends and family, but it's been hard living away.

to see what i've been up to in australia, i had started an australia blog. unfortunately, i've been super busy with work and havent' updated in forever. i'm hoping to update this weekend.

You asked, I delivered.

How did it happen?

On Friday  (June 9), I was at work and suddenly my supervisor, Andrew, had given me a puzzle. It was actually a sudoku with some strange symbols. Since I actually had some work to do and I didn't know why he gave me a puzzle, I tossed it on the side of my desk and didn't try to solve it. I think Andrew was a little shocked, but since he knew I was running out of time, he ended up giving me an envelope with the number 1 on it and the answer to the puzzle. Apparently, I was supposed to solve the puzzle on my own and find the answer, but had gotten pulled into a impromptu meeting at work and was now late on my journey. Even with the answer to the puzzle, I could barely find the answer which was "FIND ME. ASK ANDREW". I opened up the envelope and inside it was a clue and a gift certificate to City Sports.

For the very first stop on your route,
Go out and buy yourself a bathing suit.

At this point, I was really confused. I didn't really know what to do since it was weird to be given something at work that was told to go buy something for myself. I didn't immediately pack up my stuff. I was giving Andrew a funny look until he finally said that I should follow the clue and leave work. I packed up my stuff and headed to City Sports. At this point, my heart was racing and I was really nervous and sort of scared about what was going on. While walking to City Sports, Andrew calls me to confirm that I'm heading to the right City Sports. When I arrived at City Sports, I headed directly to where I saw some bathing suits on the wall. As I was looking,  someone taps me on my shoulder and it's Sarah Rhee! Since I was already pretty nervous, Sarah's tapping made me jump. Sarah was there to help me find a bathing suit and give me a stuffed animal and after I bought my bathing suit, she would give me my next clue. After we searched and searched for bathing suits, we finally found one that sort of fit and actually matched and I got my next clue.

Now that you have something nice to wear,
It's time to finally go cut your hair.

Along with the clue was a gift certificate to Acote and even some money for tip. David had thought of everything. Sarah walked me to the T and sent me on my way to the next stop. I got to the hair salon for my appointment and didn't know if the hair salon knew what was going on and would give me the next clue. As I started getting ready for my haircut, my friend, Kristine Osterman, appeared. Kristine came with chocolates and the next clue, but I wasn't allowed to open it until the haircut was over. At the hair salon, I actually had a lot of difficulty with the hair dresser cause she wouldn't let me cut it as short as I would like. It was a real struggle and really annoying. When the haircut was finally over, Kristine gave me the next clue.

The next stop will surely be quite fun,
What better than getting your nails done!

When I got to the nail salon, I wasn't sure if I actually had an appointment because it's a pretty big salon and they always have walk ins. But as I was looking at the appointment book, I saw my name (well a version of my name... denase.. damn asians) As I was getting my nails done, I kept looking out the door and was wondering who would come next to meet me. Would it finally be David? Nope, Christy Eng appeared into the salon. Christy was very helpful at the nail salon since she's been going quite often ever since she got engaged. I kept making comments to Christy about how fun it will be because we could get our nails done together now. Christy tried to keep a straight face while asking why we would suddenly start going together.  After my nails were done, I carefully opened my next clue and opened my present which was a set of earrings.

As if you weren't already beautiful to see,
It's time to come home to be with me!!

On my way home, I was really nervous. I didn't know whether I should ring the doorbell, walk in like normal or knock. When I got home, David had bought 2 dozen roses and had cleaned up the entire apartment. He said a speech and got down on one knee and proposed. Obviously I ended up saying yes and could barely see or put on the ring because I had tears in my eys. After we put the ring on and we had some champagne, I found out that we were going to a bed and breakfast in Cape Cod for the weekend. Most of my plans for the weekend were fake! My mom had scheduled a lunch with me (Fake). David had said one of his friends would be visiting over the weekend (Fake). I had made plans to meet Kristine at the gym (Fake). Unfortunately there were some real plans that I couldn't end up going to, but I think my friends understood.

Some funny parts to the whole engagement process:
I had already made hair cutting plans with Sarah Rhee earlier in the week. David happened to call her the day before our appointment to let her in on the secret. Then, she had to somehow convince me to cancel our appointments and we rescheduled for Friday afternoon. I hadn't told Dave about my haircut because I wanted to surprise him, but in the end he surprised me!

To get in touch with my parents and actually visit them to ask for their blessing, David lied to me about what day he was getting home from work (he's been travelling M-T). He got home a day earlier than he told me, rented a car and drove to my parent's house and had dinner with them. The next day was my sister's graduation, where David and I went home and ate with my family. None of my family acted strange AT ALL. I had no idea that David had dinner with them the night before.

Returning home from the cape:
We came home a bit earlier than originally expected to find out that some of our friends had planned a surprise engagement party for us. Unfortunately we ruined the surprise by coming home early. Imaging my shock when I was walking up the stairs to our apt and heard voices coming out of it. We were told to leave and come back in an hour. It was a lot of fun that our friends were able to get together this mini party in such a short time frame and celebrate our engagement with us.

Thanks to everyone for
1. reading all this shit
2. good wishes

Special thanks for those who helped David or planned the engagement party. I didn't realize that you were all such good liars. =b
